On Facebook, Hidilyn shared photos on her graduation day as she expressed her elation over her achievement. She explained how it took her 16 years to finish college because she shifted courses, transferred school, and juggled training while studying.
She said, “Nakakaiyak din pala. Not an ordinary day. Inabot din ng 16 years, nagshift ng courses, nagtransfer ng school, nagLOA dahil ang hirap pagsabayin ang pagwe-weightlifting at pag-aaral.”
She said that aside from dreaming of an Olympic gold, she also dreamed of finishing college. She thought it was impossible but, “posible pala.”
She added, “Dreaming of graduating from college and earning a degree while preparing for the Olympics. Hindi ko akalain na magagawa ko, after sleepless nights and tiring days from training while attending school at De La Salle – College of St. Benilde. Posible pala.”
In the end, the star athlete encouraged other athletes to continue pursuing education. She said all the hardwork of juggling school and sports would be worth it in the end.
“Kung nakaya ko, kaya ng mga student-athletes, at mga bata at sa lahat na gusto makapagtapos, age doesn’t matter, mahirap pero super worth it. I never imagined reaching this point. But here I stand,” she added.
Hidilyn graduated Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Management at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
