Moscow – Russia’s Eastern Military District received a number of new short-range air defense systems Tor-M2. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said the Tor-M2 has high efficiency in air strikes as well as radio-electronic countermeasures.

The Tor-M2 is intended to cover ground units and formations from cruise missile attacks, the Russian Defense Ministry wrote in a statement. The complex can work in both manual and automatic modes, at the same time against dozens of targets.

The Tor-M2 is an upgraded version of the Tor-M1 short-range air defense missile system. The Tor-M2/M2E was designed by the Russian defense company, Almaz-Antey. This system was introduced for the first time to the public at the 2007 MAKS implementation.

The latest variant of the Tor-M2 has increased fire control radar coverage and four guidance channels allowing up to four missiles to be launched and guided at the same time. The Tor-M2/M2E is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, guided missiles and other targets.

In June 2020, the Russian defense industry announced that the Tor-M2 system had been modified to protect Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure.
